Though Second Chapter Bookstore has “popped down” for the year, we do have other volunteer opportunities available. Sorting and Scanning Books – we have a modest storage space for books and are sorting books weekly for optimal storage and preparation for sale. There will be 1-2 hour shifts (weekday mornings) for sorting and scanning.

Transporting Books to our Specialty Reseller – Friends of the UPPL works with a reseller for certain categories of books. We use volunteers and their personal vehicle to transport selected books to their warehouse in Dallas (just south of I-30). Twice monthly volunteers will load vehicles and drop off books to reseller. The reseller unloads your vehicle for you, there is limited physical lifting involved. Weekdays, during business hours.

Twice annual Park Cities Recycling Event – Volunteers are invited to join 2 hour shifts at the Park Cities Recycling Event (across from Burleson Park on a Saturday morning). Responsibilities include: greeting book donors at the Recycling Event, helping to direct student volunteers (Scouts) as they unload cars, sorting books as they are donated. APRIL 15 IS THE NEXT RECYCLING EVENT and we need many volunteers.

When Second Chapter is not open there are limited opportunities for working at book sales. However, there are a few during the year. Volunteers are needed for set up, selling and take down. These occur on select Saturdays and Weekdays. Currently we have a book sale on the calendar for: May, June, July

Online sales. The Friends sell select books online using Facebook or eBay (new!). Volunteers help by researching prices (Vintage or Unique items), composing item descriptions, packing and shipping.

Special ad-hoc opportunities for teens who love books.
