AMCIS 2022 continues the tradition of hosting the Junior Faculty Consortium. This year, it will be hosted as an in-person session but with the option to attend remotely. The consortium draws together not-yet-tenured faculty along with faculty mentors from a variety of schools throughout the Americas region for activities and discussion aimed to offer all participants insights into their own and others’ academic careers that can help them continue their creativity, passion, and excitement for a balanced work-life commitment to academia and its impact on society.

Consortium is limited to those who have completed their PhD and are in an academic position anywhere in the world. Application deadline is May 31, 2022.

The faculty mentors have been invited to represent many different perspectives. Some will be asked to comment on getting tenure in North American schools, others getting tenure in South and Central America. Some will be asked to comment on being “one of a kind” in their department (the only woman, the only one of a particular minority race, the only one doing qualitative research, the only one studying behavioral issues). Some will be asked to comment on how to maintain one’s creativity given the pressures against it. Some will be asked to talk about how to maintain work-life balance. There will be breakout rooms to take these issues into more detail. Our schedule will be:

12:00-12:30: Welcome and introduction by the program chairs; Introduction of faculty mentors
12:30-1:00: Faculty mentors on how to get tenure at their different institutions (how did they get tenure: things that worked, mistakes made)
1:00-1:45: Breakout about action steps participants can take to get tenure at their institution
1:45-2:00: Coffee break
2:00-2:30: Being the one and only: Stories from faculty mentors
2:30-3:00: Breakout: Action steps to take when you are the one and only
3:00-3:30: Breakout: Struggle a participant faces and suggestions for overcoming it (~5 mentees to 1 mentor)
3:30-3:45: Report back: about takeaways about how to overcome struggles
3:45-4:15: Close the loop: What’s the most significant takeaway for each of you?
4:15-5:00: Get a cup of coffee & birds of a feather: Find others with similar research interests, challenges
