New Zealand schools are required to consult with their communities periodically on their health programmes. To help us evaluate our teaching and learning we are asking parents to give feedback on how effectively they feel we deliver against this curriculum.
There are two curriculum documents which feed into school Health programmes here in New Zealand; the New Zealand Health Curriculum and the New Zealand Sexualities Curriculum. In a primary school setting these outline how schools construct meaningful teaching and learning around hauora and well-being | attitudes and values | relationships between individuals and others | and society & health promotion.
Teaching and learning programmes are divided into 4 strands: personal health and physical development | movement concepts and motor skills | relationships with others | and healthy communities and environments. At Windy Ridge, we also offer the Keeping our Selves Safe programme and Positive Puberty Programme. To help you get a better understanding of how we teach each strand we have prepared a short description of each learning area. These are what we are asking our community for feedback on. Please note that In years 1-6, the Sexuality Education Curriculum focuses on friendships and interpersonal relationships as well as identity, diversity and respect towards others. It is not a sex education curriculum.
