Make it Happen - Gateshead Culture           INFO SESSION - BOOKING FORM
Are you a practicing artist or producer? Living in Gateshead?
Would you like to learn how to set up and deliver community-led arts projects?

If the answer is YES then Make it Happen is a real-world training programme for creatives just like you.

Helix Arts and Gateshead Council’s Culture Team have joined forces to provide a FREE practical training and coaching programme for artists and producers interested in initiating community art projects in Gateshead.

Helix Arts’ Make it Happen (MiH) is a flexible, participant-centred programme that provides training and ongoing support to encourage and enable people to create their own project plan and then deliver activities to their own communities. This is supported by experts in the field and previous course alumni from the successful pilot in 2016.

Make it Happen aims to provide grass roots community activities and increase community volunteering and social networks.

We want to continue our work in supporting and developing artists and producers to enable their own participatory arts activities to happen in local Gateshead communities. The training will include everything from designing a project, developing partnerships to fundraising and evaluation.

Make it Happens runs over 8 FREE training and development sessions, taking place across a network of Gateshead cultural venues on various Thursday mornings from 13 June 2019 (see timetable https://www.helixarts.com/mih.php).

You will then be given a small budget to create a participatory arts project with communities across Gateshead to
co-produce an event, exhibition or festival in your/their own neighbourhoods.

You will be guided and supported by the creative team at Helix Arts and Gateshead’s Culture Team who have many years’ experience of delivering participatory arts project and working with communities.

All you need is:

- To be an artist or producer living and working in Gateshead
- To have begun to or are thinking about delivering participatory workshops within the communities of Gateshead
- Availability to attend the training course (8 sessions, around 3 hours each)
- Ability and willingness to undertake self-directed work between sessions
- Basic computer skills and a current email address
- Agree to work with other artists, producers and community volunteers on the programme to manage and deliver a project
after the training – the time required depends on the project you decide to deliver/budget limits
