This Zoom training session, hosted by Gareth Metcalfe, is for Y6 teachers. It will explore a systematic approach for helping all children to understand and break down multi-step mathematics word questions. We will see how the 'slow reveal' technique can be used to focus thinking on the structure of a question before children can calculate an answer. We will consider how equipment and images can be used, and how to present sequences of questions to gradually increase challenge and make connections. Examples from the resource Deconstructing Word Questions - Y6 will be shared. It will be a practical, thought-provoking session!
