Expectations
  • Volunteering at the library is a privilege and service to the community. We expect everyone to take this experience seriously and to treat others with respect.
  • Volunteers are expected to show up on time for the shifts they select and to be present for the entire shift.
  • Volunteers must contact us if they are going to be late or absent from a shift. They may call, email, or delete their shift off of Sign-Up Genius.
There is a 3 strike rule. Strikes are issued for either displaying behavioral problems such as leaving a mess behind, acting rude to a patron, volunteer, or staff AND/OR for missing shifts with no email or phone call. If one reaches 3 strikes, then they have proven they are not yet mature enough to handle the responsibility and will not be allowed to volunteer for a 6-month period.
Sign up for Shifts
Shift selection is completed via Sign-Up Genius online. You are responsible for your own schedule. Please keep track of the hours you select for yourself as staff expects you to be here. All shifts are available on a first come, first served basis.
Types of Shifts
The Sign-Up Genius gives volunteers the opportunity to select the shifts they wish to volunteer for this year. They can select the days and times that best fit their schedule as well as the type of shift. We have two different types of shifts that a volunteer can work:

General Task: Work alone on a project, prepare materials for a future program, and help maintain library spaces

Program Helper: Help a librarian run a program at the Library

Teen Advisory Meetings: Eat snacks and make decisions on what programs we offer. You will be given the opportunity to test different crafts and activities.
