SPILANTHES - ACMELLA OLERACEA
Over the past 9 years I've grown Spilanthes - Acmella oleracea, also called toothache plant, paracress, Sichuan buttons, buzz buttons, tingflowers and electric daisy.
-- GROWING CONDITIONS / SPILANTHES --
My plants have been grown from seed that I've harvested from plants I've grown and and that colleagues have grown over the past 10 years.
There are no sprays or any biocides used in any of my cultivation.
It's an incredible plant for it's many researched, experienced and suggested health benefits including but not limited to:
Mouth Health
- gum health - a gum increase of 0.3mm is considered excellent in dentistry, however in multiple trials over the years Spilanthes has shown to increase gum health by 3mm,
- my oral hygiene has been primarily Spilanthes and toothpick based for the last 8 years,
- Spilanthes increases saliva production, for those suffering from cotton or dry mouth this can be a useful property of the plant,
Anti-Viral / Anti-Bacterial / Anti-Fungal
- while traveling I keep a bottle of spilanthes tincture on me and take routinely through out the day, it's been my companion on all major trips and while I'm visiting any medical facility or group gathering,
Muscle Relaxant / Anti-Inflammatory
- my experience after a long day physically working on the homestead or off site is using spilanthes tincture relaxes my muscles and nerves,
Testosterone Production / Sexual Stimulant
- a family member was experienced low testosterone and took spilanthes for an extended period of time with positive results.
- there are a number of reports that Spilanthes increases mucus membrane secretions.
Loss of Taste
- a few folks who purchases Spilanthes last year reported that their loss of taste due to COVID came back partially in two individuals and fully in another.
ST. JOHN'S WORT - HYPERICUM PERFORATUM

I harvest my St. John's wort locally in the Christian Valley from unsprayed and cultivated areas taking only 10-30% of the flowers per plant. Plant are then dehydrated for 24 hrs to reduce the water content.
Nerve Pain
- after picking St. John's Wort (SJW) I find the nerve pain I experience from a car accident years ago is lessened or completely gone for a week or two after picking.
- In the winter when I take SJW daily my nerve pain is almost at zero.
Mental Uplift
- this plant has been called 'liquid sunshine' time and time again, and that's been my experience with it. In the winter when the snow sets in and temperatures plunge and I think 'will it ever be warm again?' this tincture helps my mood dramatically and keeps my spirit uplifted. I find I don't feel down or depressed as much or at all with daily intake.
PLEASE NOTE - it's not advised for people who are pregnant or taking SSRIs to take St. John's Wort.
KAVA KAVA - PIPER METHYSTICUM - HEALTH BENEFITS
Nerve and Parasympathetic Nerve System Relaxant
- a very calming tincture that can relax muscle and calm mental anxiety
- I source high grade Kava Kava that's been ethically harvested and processed.

The 40% ABV alcohol I use is from non-GMO barley that is distilled 6 times vs 3-4 times for common alcohol. It's distilled locally and directly feeds into the local economy of the Okanagan.

During times of crisis or times of plenty it's prudent and sounds wisdom to have a personal store house of the food and medicine to keep you and your family safe. While we endeavour to have 1-2 years supply of food and sundries we are more and more working on having proven remedies for any first aid situations. Keeping ourself healthy and out of the medical need is of paramount important to our family (immediate and extended). Locally made and sourced tinctures is one way we keep our health at a optimal level.
-- AVAILABILITY / SPILANTHES --
The plants grow over the summer with buds that are extremely potent. Once the plants are ready it will be 2-3 months, well into fall, before the tincture is available for purchase and shipping.
Tincture will only be available in 500mL plastic bottles for shipping. I recommend decanting the tincture into glass bottles when it arrives.
One 500mL tincture bottle will be ~$150 (+/- $15) plus shipping ($15 across Canada for 1 bottle, $25 for two, custom price for out of Canada.
Tincture supply is very limited and will be sold first come first served to those on this list and from interested customers from last year.
