YouTube Video Editor for Storytelling/Edutainment Weight Loss Channel
We're a weight loss channel looking for a video editor with visual storytelling experience on YouTube.
  • 51k+ subscribers.
  • 2M views in June (when last video went viral).
  • 30% of subscribers are reliable returning audience (vs. most channels have 5-20%).
Closing Date for Applications: November 11, 2022.

What you'll be doing
1. Pre-filming: You will collaborate with our writer to refine the script. Examples of what you'll test script for:
  • Emotional beats exist and will move the viewer.
  • Metaphors and analogies are used to simplify scientific explanations.
  • Hook competes on an attention-deficit medium like YouTube WHILE matching our brand voice.
  • Pacing and tension build-up -> release -> repeat until last build-up to next video works.
  • We're using contrasts, invented phrases, etc. to make information stick in viewers' minds.
  • Using the best formats (talking head, interviews, sketches, etc.) to bring message to life.
  • B-rolls needed to translate the script into a visual medium (e.g. B-roll shots (establishing, details, humans, action) that relieve how much needs to be explicitly said, music/sound design, motion graphics).
2. Filming: Once the script is finalized, you will create a shot list for Richa to film.
  • Annotate script with A-roll, B-roll and Graphics.
  • Specify location, props, acting direction for B-rolls.
  • Annotate music vibe for each segment.
3. Post-filming: Edit the raw files Richa hands you to create the video you pictured at end of step 1. We'll give you feedback. Iterate on the video until criteria listed in step 1 is met as best as possible before deadline.

GOAL: publish 1 video every week.

Ideal Applicant
  • An exceptional understanding of storytelling devices (see What You'll Be Doing -> 1. above).
  • Hunger to be the best video editor. Editing is your core passion/art.
  • Experience editing edutainment-style videos.
  • Understanding of YouTube and the "science" of why videos perform well.
  • Good at meeting deadlines (speed + quality is very important to me)
  • Communicate clear deadlines and communicate promptly if you're stuck and need help.
  • Honest and frequent communications on deadlines, progress, editing decisions, confusions, frustrations.
  • Take ownership of your success end-to-end: bring up new ideas, question our direction, point out where the script/other parts of video production may be compromising your success.
Perks of the job
  • Location independence: You can work from home or anywhere in the world.
  • Time independence: You can work whatever hours you like as long as you meet deadlines and keep us apprised of your progress.
  • Trajectory: You'll be an early-stage team member in a growing business with audacious impactful goals. This means your role can grow as we scale.
  • Impact: You'll be making massive contributions to humanity as you inspire people through your stories to achieve their dream body and life. We get comments everyday on how our videos have finally gotten people to their dream and/or caused them to try again when they had given up.
  • Ownership: If you’ve got ideas that align with our mission, you’ll have free reign to make them happen without having to wade through red tape and middle management.
  • Mentorship: Access to programs & coaching to help you uplevel your skills. Examples of programs & coaches we've already invested in: Ed Lawrence from Business Film Booth, Ali Abdaal's Part-Time YouTuber Academy, Derrell Eaves' Jumpstart course, Casey Neistat's Filmaking & Storytelling course, Matt D'Avella's Master YouTube course, Nathaniel Drew and Johnny Harris' Visual Storytelling course.
