In this Digital Safari, three speakers introduce projects and initiatives from the live music industry in Finland.
KEMUT network and Elma.live
Project Manager Anu Ahola introduces the KEMUT network and its projects. In 2020, some of Finland’s key live music operators joined forces to work towards a more sustainable music industry and founded a network called KEMUT (Sustainable music industry toolkit). The network has investigated Finnish live music industry’s carbon footprint and created Elma.live, a digital platform serving live music industry operators by providing information, tools and support for promoting sustainable development.

Sustainability in Provinssi Festival
Provinssi Festival’s production manager Peppi Arrimo speaks about sustainable values, mission, initiatives and acts of the festival. Provinssi is one of the oldest and biggest music festivals in Finland, taking place for the 43rd time in a beautiful nature surrounded park area in Seinäjoki. The festival has calculated its carbon emissions in the past few years, and recently started building up a new sustainability plan using the Elma.live platform.

Better Live: for a bigger number of small events
CEO Annamaija Saarela talks about sustainability projects of G Livelab Tampere. The venue is one of the 11 partners of Better Live, a new 4-year project involving over 100 organizers from Europe. “Like all cultural sectors, the music sector needs a systemic change that will lay the proper foundations towards a more sustainable, just and inclusive live music system. At the same time, the international dimension of artistic creation is a condition for the further development of our industry. “
