Dear Parents/Guardians,

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a committee consisting of staff members and parents of students whose first language is not English. It is a meeting place where parents/guardians can participate and provide input for programs and services for English Learners at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School (TMES). The TMES ELAC Bylaws specify that parent representatives, who are voting members, serve a one-year term. ELAC has openings for next year’s committee for parent member or representative. Specifically, the following positions are available: Chairperson (Co-facilitates all meetings), Vice Chair (Leads in the Chairpersons absence), Secretary (Documents all meeting notes), and DELAC Representative (Attends monthly CVESD DELAC meeting).

Any parent/guardian whose child attends TMES is eligible to be an ELAC member or representative. The ELAC Committee meets at least five times during the school year.

Parent nominations for the 2020/21 school year will take place starting Monday, May 24, 2021 and end on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Official Ballots will be sent home on Thursday, June 3, 2021 and must be returned by Thursday, June 10, 2021. Selection of the candidates will be held live on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 9 a.m. for the ELAC Parent Representatives to serve on the board during the 2021/2022 school year.

If you would like to place your name on the ballot for parent member or representative, please complete the lower portion of this letter and include one paragraph (optional) about why you would like to be part of the ELAC. This letter is due to the school office by 4:00 p.m. or electronically on Tuesday, June 1, 20210.
