Galena R-II Schools

The American Rescue Plan signed into law in March included funding opportunities in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds for school districts across the country, which is the single largest investment in federal elementary and secondary education in the nation’s history. Galena R-II School District will apply to receive some of that additional funding.

Current Issues, Challenges and Best Practices: In this block of questions, we are requesting your opinion on what students in the Galena School District are experiencing, and what should Galena R-II focus its grant efforts on going forward.

We are seeking your input on how to best utilize funds to meet the needs of Galena R-II School District students and staff. Below are allowable activities. Please mark 3 uses of funds that you believe would be most beneficial to Galena students. Note: A minimum of 20% of funds are mandated to learning loss. *

To purchase instructional materials and curriculum to help with learning recovery efforts for students.

To hire additional staff to help accelerate learning and reduce learning gaps for identified students.

To provide students with disabilities various services that were disrupted due to COVID-19.

To provide social/emotional counseling and wellness supports to students as well as professional development for staff.

To purchase equipment to accommodate social distancing for students and staff.

To purchase cleaning supplies to sanitize facilities, personal protective equipment (PPE) and provide staff training on procedures.

To provide staff development on best practices for teachers to accelerate learning for students.

To provide technology updates and improve infrastructure and connectivity.

To provide facility updates for cleaner indoor air quality and help with crowding and capacity concerns.
