Voices of Oklahoma is a summer internship for rising Oklahoma high school juniors and seniors who are members of communities traditionally underrepresented in archaeology. Those communities include all non-European-Americans, as well as those who identify as LGBTQ+. This for-college-credit, paid internship program introduces students to the discipline of archaeology, framing it as a tool that can produce knowledge that complements other ways people understand heritage (e.g., through historic documents and oral traditions). The internship also introduces students to the history of boarding schools in Oklahoma, and to the ways that archaeology can be used to better understand them and even to bring belated justice to victims of harsh boarding school conditions. More details on the program can be found
here. Nominations are due Dec. 15. Nominees will be contacted after that date and invited to complete a short application for an internship.
