Study Participation Form - Flame Retardants in Vehicles
RESEARCH STUDY RECRUITMENT PURPOSE:
We are looking for participants to deploy samplers (small silicone bands) in their cars that will be later analyzed to measure the types and concentrations of flame retardant chemicals commonly used in the transportation industry. Publishing these anonymous results will then allow auto manufacturers and policy makers to evaluate flame retardant usage and if alternative methods of meeting automotive flammability standards could be used. Participants that also submit a small amount of vehicle seat foam (optional) will receive information on which flame retardants are used in their cars.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any adult who owns a vehicle purchased in the United States with model years from 2015 and onward who can place a small sampler in their personal vehicle can participate. (Note that it is okay if your vehicle was manufactured outside the United States, as long as you completed its purchase within the US). The sampler is a small silicone band that will be hung from your rearview mirror. Vehicles should not be cleaned during the sampling periods. We also request that other sources of foam (e.g. separate chair cushions or child car seats) be minimized during the sampling period where possible.
ACTIVITIES:
Participation will include hanging the sampler from the rearview mirror, removing it after one week, and mailing the sampler back to the research team in a pre-addressed and stamped envelope.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form below as soon as possible as we have a limited number of places in our study.
