Horizons at Carolina Day Summer 2024 Volunteer Application
"Working to advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning."

Horizons at Carolina Day School (CDS) is a year-round academic enrichment program with a focus on engaging and joyful learning and long term relationships with our families. All Horizons students qualify for free and reduced lunch when they begin our program and reflect the strength and diversity of the Asheville community. Students are performing at all different grade levels when they come to Horizons, and students have been recommended by their teacher at our partner schools, Ira B. Jones Elementary and Avery's Creek Elementary.

Our six-week summer program includes project-based learning in reading, math & science, as well as dance, art, music, swimming, and field trips. Volunteers and interns have the opportunity to interact with students and support the program in a variety of meaningful ways. All who join the Horizons community can expect an enriching, hands-on, joyful, and potentially life-changing experience.

The Summer 2024 Horizons at CDS Program runs from June 17th to July 26th. Volunteer hours are from 8:00 to 3:00. For consistency, we ask that our volunteers sign up for three weeks of service. For special time arrangements, please contact Executive Director Jenny Tracy at jtracy@carolinaday.org

This will be our seventh summer, and we are excited to serve 105 students across our 7 classes. We will have volunteers in grades K-4. Our youngest students just completed their kindergarten year while our oldest just completed 6th grade. Importantly,  our students return each summer as we add a new class of younger students. Volunteers who also return year after year have the opportunity to build deep and lasting relationships that have a significant impact on their lives and the lives of the students that we work with.

Horizons Volunteers must be:
1. At least 13 years old (Adults are also encouraged to volunteer!)
2. Available to attend the required Volunteer Training on either Saturday, April 27th or Sunday, April 28th
3. Enthusiastic and open to learning how to work with children in a variety of academic and enrichment settings
