Reading for Change - Scavengers - Sustainable Cities and Communities
The first discussion takes Darren Simpson's “Scavengers” as an entry point to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities. How is life for people who live their entire life in the shadows of others, yet without them the city would not sustain. Visible, yet invisible to most of us most of the time. Usually  conversations around people involved in waste management (waste pickers, landfill workers) are not empowering, especially in their representation in writing which tends to be descriptive. “Scavengers” allows us to approach this topic from a very different perspective.

Seema Mundoli and Lakshmi Karunakaran will be discussing Scavengers on August 1, 2020 in the context of SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and the city of Bengaluru.
