Let's Play Music: 1st Year Parent Orientation
Thank you for taking the time to get ready for the Let's Play Music: 1st Year Parent
Orientation.

YOU are a crucial part of helping your child become a complete musician. Please
review the following information from the parent section of the student workbook and answer
the questions before we meet.

I understand this is lengthy, but the information is critical for you to get the most out of your investment.

My hope is that you can complete this at a convenient time for you (when kids are asleep, or at school), and it will save us a ton of time at the in-person parent orientation. It will also allow you to process the information at your own pace, to enhance comprehension, and avoid the "fire hose" of information that was previously presented at an hour long orientation. If you complete this form you should be in and out of my in-studio parent orientation in 20 minutes tops.

Welcome to Music Class!
1st year classes are 45 minutes long and are held weekly for 15 weeks in Fall and 15 weeks in Spring, basically following the Mesa Public Schools calendar.

*updates to the video: studio has been renovated and expanded - see more at the parent orientation. Minor tweaks to procedure will be explained on the 1st day of class.
I watched the "Welcome" video! *
Please review the studio policies. We will discuss and sign at the parent orientation.
I reviewed the Studio Policies. *
Please write any questions or concerns with the Studio Policies here.
Tuition
As stated above, 1st year tuition is $260/semester. It is simpler if you pay by the semester, but if you choose to pay monthly, please reach out to me and pay promptly on the first lesson of each month.

I will be emailing digital invoices that can be paid directly from your bank in order to save the studio hundreds of dollars in fees every year. If that doesn't work, I can also accept payment through Venmo @JudieMusic. No other forms of payment, including cash or check are accepted at this time in order to simplify tracking and bookkeeping.
Attendance, Punctuality, and Make-up Lessons
Attendance is paramount in this curriculum as we are actively working to build brain connections and train their ears and voices for music. Please make class time a priority.

To avoid disruption and get the most out of class, please drop your child off a few minutes before class and be ready to pick them up as soon as class is over so I can prep for my next class.

Missing a lesson or two per semester is usually not a problem, but if your child is missing too much I will recommend purchasing a virtual make-up lesson through a special link to Let's Play Music's online webstore. They are $7 each and can only be purchased if your student is currently enrolled in that curriculum with a teacher. They are extremely professional, polished, engaging, and entertaining. They do have an element of parental involvement similar to a parent day in class.

You can always reach out to me if your child is sick and I'll send the link to purchase a make-up class if you'd like.
To avoid errors on printed calendars, and to automatically update and notify you of any schedule changes, I have created a shared calendar for each LPM class. It is a little more complicated up front than a simple piece of paper, but I hope it will resolve many problems we've had in the past.

You should be able to click the appropriate link below and it will just automatically add events to your calendar. Some parents have had more success clicking the link on their PC.

If the link doesn't work, try this instead: First, right click on and select "copy link address" on the calendar link for your child's class from the list below.
LPM1=Red Balloons/Blue Bugs
LPM2=Green Turtle Shells/Yellow Arrows
LPM3=Purple Magic/Orange Roots

(step two if the link didn't automatically work). Then follow these steps to integrate that calendar on your device.
Confirm the calendar synced correctly by going to August 7th on your calendar app - does it show the Parent Orientation? Do you see the first day of class as expected? *
I have added the LPM calendar to my calendar app. *
TAKE NOTE:
1st year: a parent will attend class with their child on ALL odd numbered lessons. (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, & 15)
2nd & 3rd year: a parent will attend with each child on lessons 1, 5, 9, 13, & 15.
Siblings will not be allowed to attend a class they are not enrolled in due to liability and distraction.

Having a parent attend class periodically not only strengthens the parent/child bond, but it fosters gradual independence, and most importantly, it keeps parents aware of what their student is learning and how they can help at home.
I understand the parent attendance policy. *
Audio Tracks - App - no CDs!!!
An exciting recent change is the announcement of a Let's Play Music app! It currently allows you to login and access all audio tracks for each semester your children have participated in. In the future it will be a hub for all things LPM including payment, communication, theory games, registration, and more! We will no longer be offering a physical CD.

Please take a moment to download the app using the link below, and login. As with all new apps, we expect glitches, but our tech team is really quick about responding to the "feedback" option in the app, so submit all technical difficulties there.

**when logging in to the app, use the PRECISE login credentials you created when registering your student, including capitalization. Some phones will try to auto-capitalize your email and that won't work.
**if the album for your current class is not showing on the app, try to log out and log back in. If that doesn't work, call the front office at 480-840-1969 for a quick fix on their end.

YOU are a critical part of your child's ability to thrive in this program. They can't fully succeed without your support at home throughout the week. Listening to the audio tracks daily, singing, doing the home fun activities, and in year 2 and 3: practicing the piano a few minutes each day.

IMPORTANT: Parent Communication from Ms. Judie
After class EVERY WEEK I post a link to an up-to-date blog post with timely announcements, explanations of what we learned in class, how to help at home, and fun tidbits to share with your kiddos. It never fails that I have a few parents each year who don't click the link, miss an announcement or what we're doing in class, and it causes big problems for them.

Don't be like them - go to the app - find the parent communication bell icon - click the link - peruse the info.
It's valuable and worth your time.

**Go to settings on your LPM app and enable push notifications so you'll be notified if I send anything.**
I rarely send announcements through text and never through email. 99% of class communication FROM me will be through the app. If you need to contact me, that will be through text messaging.
I WILL check the app, enable push notifications, click the weekly link and READ the info!

I (Ms. Judie) purchase LPM t-shirts for each student to wear during spirit week and at the recital. Please let me know SIZE based on the chart below.
What size T-shirt would you like for your child? *
In summary:
  • Be on time to drop off and pick up, class is 45 min.
  • Send your child with all materials each week
  • Make daily music time a habit, listening to class audio tracks and doing home fun activities TOGETHER
