18th Century Mantles & Cloaks Pattern Tester Application
Thank you for you interest in testing the next Scroop + Virgil's Fine Goods Pattern collection!

This collection features three 18th century cloak and mantle patterns.  They will be available as individual patterns or as a bundle that includes all three patterns.

The patterns include instructions for fully handsewn cloaks/mantles.  While some parts of the making can be done by machine, it is not possible to make the cloaks/mantles entirely by machine without significantly altering the making process and final finish.

The following application is designed to help us choose a pool of testers who represent a range of different sizes, sewing styles, and geographic locations, and to make sure that all views are tested, and that we've created a pattern that fits well, is easy to follow, and is understandable and accessible.

If we're able to have you as a tester we'll let you know by email.  Unfortunately due to the amount of applicants we receive we won't be able to include everyone in the pool.

All your responses to this application will be kept private.

Based on the following size chart, which size would you be testing?  Choose the size based on bust measure.  These cloaks are extremely flexible in size, and fit can be adjusted at the neck. *
18th Century Cloaks & Mantles Size Chart
Line Drawings for the three patterns and each of their views are below.  Which pattern and view (for example "Marie, View A, hoodless") would you like to make?

The Marie Cloak takes the least fabric: between 1.5m/1 3/4y - 2.5m/3y of fabric depending on pattern size, view and hood/hoodless, and fabric width.  The Sophia Mantle takes the most fabric: between 2.5m/3y - 3.5m/4y of each type of fabric (lining and outer) , depending on pattern size and fabric width.

If there are multiple options that you would be equally happy to make, please list them all.
*
The Marie Cloak (#1):  1740-1779, unlined, small hood (optional), with trim variations, and instructions on making it in lace or gauze as well as light-midweight silks.
The Charlotte Cloak (#2) 1770-1795, lined or unlined, large hood (optional), with trim variations.
The Sophia Mantle (#3): 1775-1810, lined, two body options, enormous hood, instructions on adding fur or fringe trim
Tell us a little about the test mantle you want to make.  Would it be a historically accurate garment, or part of a more modern costume or cosplay?  Do you know what fabric you want to use?  Etc...   *
We will be hosting a private FB group for the pattern testers.  If you were selected would you join it? *
Do you have a blog/vlog/instagram or other online presence focused on your sewing/historical costuming?  If so, please provide the link.  If no, type 'No' *
Please tell us a little bit about your sewing experience - particularly historical sewing *
What country are you located in? *
If you are supplied with the fabric requirements on Wed 26th Oct, and the test pattern on Wed 2 Nov, will you be able to make and photograph a completed cloak/mantle by end of day on Sun 27 Nov?   *
Expectations of Testers
Testers need to:

- Be able to print patterns in A4, A0, US Letter or US full sized Copyshop paper sizes;
- Have the time to make a cloak or mantle, and supply feedback and photos of the cloak/mantle by Sun 27 Nov;
- Be able to photograph your make being worn, and be willing for us to share your photos on various social media platforms;
- Be able to provide clear feedback;
- Agree to keep the test pattern and any information supplied during the testing process confidential;

We would hugely appreciate it if testers would share their finished make once the pattern launches, but this is not mandatory.  If you do share your finished makes you must:

- Note that you tried a test version of the pattern
- Note that you were not required to market the pattern as part of the testing process.

We'll try to make testing as fun and valuable a process as possible for testers, with lots of opportunities for feedback, sewing help, and live zoom events (but it's also fine if you just want to take the test pattern, work through it, fill out the feedback forms, and have no other contact - both are helpful forms of testing!)

I understand that if selected I will receive:
- A digital PDF of the test pattern for the cloak/mantle I am testing
- A digital PDF of the completed pattern bundle, with all three cloak/mantle patterns
Do you understand and agree to all of the above points *
Thank you for applying!  Anything else you want to share with us or ask us?
