The Learning Futures Network members John Curtin College of the Arts, Cecil Andrews College,  Curtin University, and others invite your participation in this initiative.

This is a quick expression of interest form for any schools, TAFEs, universities, and other organisations around Australia willing to be involved in the development of project-based learning engagements that may contribute to the production of support equipment to assist essential services and the community through this crisis.

We have raised an idea to bring the combined efforts of schools, industry, community and higher education to engage learners in meaningful, community-supportive, design-thinking STEM and related projects to aid and assist frontline workers, isolated and vulnerable community members, and others through the immediate demands of this crisis, and into longer-term recovery and transformation of our social, educational, and industrial efforts.

It might involve 3D printing, other manufacturing - including design and testing of prototypes - that could help ease the pressures on the systems supporting our communities.  It could just as easily be designing new systems, new processes, or reimagining our interactions with each other and the world.  It could be as simple as some artwork that helps someone through the day.  It could relate to communications, social engagement, community supports, sustainable actions, data systems, and more - the potential is enormous.

We've had some preliminary discussions and there is a lot of interest in the idea - this is partly about addressing the immediate demands that are facing us all, but also a longer term visions to adopting and driving new ways of working, new expectations for learners, reimagining our communities in the knowledge that this is only the first of many global challenges that face us as we move to sustainability as a key factor of our lives.

At this stage there are still a lot of questions about the specific needs and feasibility of this sort of undertaking - what we have though is the interest and support of key figures in the Western Australian landscape working on innovative and sustainable responses to now, the near future and the long term transformation of our world.

When we are ready and able to do act, we think having a list of interested organisations ready to assist will mean we move to action in a collaborative and manageable way.
