Students vs Pandemics (SvP) is a national organization, founded at Harvard, that works to build community and empower students to make a positive impact on health and overall wellness during times of crisis. Our primary goals are to improve transparency and communication, build community, identify needs, and innovate solutions. SvP shares health education material, resources for students, and opportunities to serve our greater community through our resources spreadsheet and Instagram. Some SvP chapters have also been writing policy memos for state legislators, organizing virtual COVID hackathons, addressing digital disparity, and launching other initiatives.

The SvP chapter at UCSD currently has 5 initiatives: Service, Vulnerable Populations, Public Health, Outreach, and Voting. Every general member is welcome to join the initiative(s) of their choice to help with various projects throughout the quarter and school year. Below are the committees/initiatives that the UCSD chapter of SvP will be starting off with. Select the ones you would be interested in working in!

Service: Works on different service projects that can be conducted remotely and in San Diego

Vulnerable Populations: Identify resources for various communities that are being affected by the pandemic and work on a Resources Spreadsheet that contains information that can be helpful to the community

Public Health: Provide education material about the pandemic and safety measures that should be taken. Also read scientific literature and learn about research projects to see the actual development occurring related to COVID-19.

Outreach: Invite guest speakers to give lectures about the pandemic. Contact various organizations to partner with, promoting SvP, and expanding the work SvP can do

Mental Health: Guide the community through acts of self care while also educating the public to destigmatize common mental illnesses

Policy: Working to update SD community on new rules/updates regarding the pandemic
