The Colorado Science and Engineering Policy Fellowship is a first of its kind program in Colorado. The program was co-founded by State Senator Chris Hansen (D-Denver) and State Senator Bob Rankin (R-Carbondale) in 2018, when the two legislators found common ground in being policymakers with backgrounds in engineering. Senator Rankin retired from the Senate in late 2022, and State Senator Cleave Simpson (R-Alamosa) is stepping up to fill his co-sponsor the role.
Overall, the fellowship is designed to give policy-making experience to undergraduate and graduate students with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with the goal of increasing the presence of individuals in public policy that come from a science and engineering background.
The application deadline is March 4, 2024. The upcoming fellowship will take place from June 17 - August 9, 2024, for which 15-20 fellows will be chosen. Fellows will be given a $4000 stipend to cover cost of living in the Denver Metro Area and travel. We are also working with MSU to secure optional housing for fellows that wish to live in Denver during the fellowship.
