The Myers Park Speech and Debate Team is an Academic Competitive Team.  It is not a Club.  As such there are required commitments and responsibilities that go beyond those of clubs and social organizations.  Those rights and responsibilities are clearly enumerated in the Student Handbook.

There are 8 required tournaments this season.  All required tournaments are local events held in North or South Carolina.  All members must attend at least 6 of the 8 tournaments in order to maintain their team membership status.  
 
A registration fee of $300.00 is due for membership on the team. This fee includes registration fees, team fees, judge fees and transportation to events outside of Charlotte.

Only paid up Team members are eligible to attend optional National Circuit Tournaments, overnight tournaments and National Championships.  Attendance at these tournaments requires a separate fee payment.
Students who decide not to become Team Members but compete in a select few tournaments will pay full price for each event they attend.  They will not be eligible to attend National Circuit, overnight or National Championship Tournaments.  They will not be eligible for discounts or scholarships.

Money should not be an obstacle for any person interested in joking speech and debate. If the season fee is a barrier for you, please contact janee.goodson@cms.k12.nc.us and we will do our best to find a solution.
