BACKGROUND -- What is the California Global Biodiversity Working Group (CGBWG) & the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF)?
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) -- adopted in December 2022 by the UN Convention on Biological Diversity's (CBD) 196 signatory nations -- includes 23 Targets to be achieved by 2030 that cover every aspect of biodiversity, from healthy habitats to healthy people. It was adopted during COP15 (the Conference of Parties) in 2022. The state of California stepped up as a leader at COP15 by participating as a subnational delegation. The California Global Biodiversity Working Group (CGBWG), an informal statewide coalition, is dedicated to steering California’s actions for biodiversity to achieve the global targets of the GBF. As the fifth largest economy in the world, California is well-positioned to be a global leader in this movement. The CGBWG also facilitates partnerships to benefit our work at home while achieving the holistic vision of the world's Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and its 23 Targets. In October 2024, the CBD's 196 signatory nations will meet in Cali, Colombia for COP16, where they will determine national strategic plans to meet the Targets. Many states, provinces, territories and cities will join to talk about their state and local plans, as well as many nonprofits, and we expect a strong California presence that will benefit our work at home while contributing to the global effort.

Goal of the survey:
This survey will help us to gather data on the progress organizations in our state are making both through official state programs and by other means in meeting the goals and targets of the GBF. Please support our efforts by answering the brief survey below!
