Introduction: Welcome to our third Sunday of Lent! Before we read this Sunday's Gospel, we need to understand what would happen at the Temple in Jerusalem. Various merchants would set up tables at the Temple, where they would sell animals to worshipers who would sacrifice them. There were also money changers who would exchange Roman coins for the Temple coins, which were needed to pay the temple tax. It looked more like a marketplace than a temple. Can you imaging how Jesus might have felt when he saw that? Well let's find out. So turn to page 3 of your Good News Weekly and read "God's Temple is Holy," and then answer the questions below.
For Jewish people the Temple is the house of _______?

Jesus told the people "If you destroy this temple, I will build it again in _____________ days." *

Great job! In the Gospel this week, Jesus becomes very angry at the people because they are making a marketplace out of a holy place. The Temple is a holy place where people should come to gather and pray, and not to conduct business. And when Jesus got angry about that, how did the people respond?  They challenged him to perform a miracle that would chase them away. But instead, he says a pretty incredible thing to them. He tells them that he will destroy the temple, that took 46 years to build, and he will build it back up again in three days! How is that even possible? What they did not realize is that Jesus was not talking about the physical temple, rather he was referring to himself as the Temple. When Jesus died on Good Friday, he knew that he would come back to life in three days. The people did not understand. But later, when he rose from the dead, they saw for themselves, and then many believed. Do you?
