Student - Teacher Assistant/ Peer Tutor Approval Form
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Thank you for taking interest in becoming a Teachers Assistant or Peer Tutor. The Teacher Assistant and Peer Tutor courses at Mission Vista allows students to work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. We expect Teachers Assistants and Peer Tutors to be approachable, hardworking individuals who want to serve as a support to student, the school and the campus.

Teacher Assistant and Peer Tutor Prerequisites:

* Must have successfully completed course for which you would like to TA or PT
* Must have 2.0 GPA or higher (in the most recent grading period prior to the course)
* Must not be deficient in VUSD Graduation Requirements
* Must have no U’s in citizenship grades or recent disciplinary action (i.e. suspension) (in the most recent
     grading period prior to the course)
* Must have no attendance issues

Teacher Assistant and Peer Tutor responsibilities consist of but are not limited to:

* Tutoring struggling students
* Helping grade minor assignments (ex. homework, reading quizzes)
* Sitting in on the class every day and helping when needed
* Being respectful of students and faculty on campus
* Seeking to understand all processes and procedures required for the specific teacher you are assisting
* Maintaining course prerequisites
* Understanding that you are a role model and that you will  take this role on with a positive can do attitude

Teachers Assistant and Peer Tutor Assignment Limitations:

Students are limited to taking only 2 terms of the Teachers Assistant course and only only 2 terms of the Peer Tutor course throughout their High School career. Students may take 1 Term of the Teacher Assistant or Peer Tutor course in their Junior year and 1 Term of the Teacher Assistant or Peer Tutor course in your Senior year.
Students must be enrolled in 4 classes per term if they are taking a Teachers Assistant or Peer Tutor course.

Teachers Assistant and Peer Tutor Credit Limitations
Students may only receive a maximum 10 credits (1 Term of credit) for taking the Teachers Assistant course and may only receive a maximum of 10 credits (1 Term of credit) for taking the Peer Tutor course towards their VUSD Graduation Requirements (Board Policy 6164.1). Any Teachers Assistant or Peer Tutor course taken throughout their 4 years of High School over the 10 credit max will receive 0 credits.
