Volunteer registration: planting maintenance with Friends of the North Davis Channel (Saturday, May 6th from 9am to 12pm)
Join us on Saturday, May 6th for a workday in collaboration with Friends of the North Davis Channel! Friends of the North Davis Channel is an association of community member volunteers that live in North Davis. They have completed several impressive restorations along the bike paths in North Davis, particularly in the ditch from Sycamore to F street. Eric Newman will be leading us in our restoration efforts for this workday and speaking a bit about the Friends group and their ongoing community restoration work.

Task: Mainly mulching existing plantings and pathways. We may also do some hand weeding and/or transplanting of California fuchsia. 

Meeting location: Bird Entry Park (Anderson Road at Flicker Avenue). We will gather at the gazebo with the white metal doves on top.

Time: 9am-noon

About Friends of the North Davis Channel: Once a mere drainage channel, bordering North Davis for 1.5 miles, from Sycamore Lane to F Street, the North Davis Channel (affectionately known as the Ditch) has become a verdant open space park enjoyed every day by hikers, dog walkers, bikers, runners and bird and wildlife enthusiasts. With support from a state grant, the City of Davis, the Putah Creek Council, the Yolo County Resource Conservation District and a raft of volunteers the channel has been planted throughout with native plants that provide cover and home to wildlife, partially cleared of invasive species plants and improved with interpretive panels, bird boxes and a footpath. The Friends of the North Davis Channel has been formed to provide volunteer support and a vehicle for assisting in protection and continued improvement of this wonderful resource to the Davis Community.

 Please wear weather appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring a reusable water bottle.
