This is a survey about queer nightlife, asking those who work in London's nighttime economy to answer these questions. Whether you're a bartender, performer, promoter, DJ, bouncer, venue owner, or sex worker; if you work in queer nightlife, we want to hear from you. Please take the time to read and fill out this questionnaire.
COVID 19 has acutely affected the lives, well-being, work and finances of everybody; but it's especially difficult for marginalised communities, frontline staff, the homeless, over 50s, sex workers and those who work within nightlife. Based on experiences and stories we've heard so far, Little Gay Brother, the club night and festival collective, recognise that many people working within the nighttime gig economy are feeling left behind, are falling through the cracks of funding/grants schemes, are feeling unsupported, with no one to turn to, AND these individuals/businesses/venues are now struggling to keep afloat, some affected emotionally, creatively, mentally and financially.
We have launched an independent survey to assess how the government support put in place for businesses/individuals so far is serving the LGBTQ+ community, and crucially, to identify the gaps that still need addressing. We are all juggling with various demands but time is of an essence and we would be very grateful for you to spare 10 mins of your time to complete this and share your experiences by the 15th July (DEADLINE EXTENDED).
This could make a big impact and will help us share accurate and up to date information about the impact on our community, directly to the government to inform future decisions. THESE RESULTS WILL BE DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO the LGBTQ+ Venue's Forum to share with the Mayor of London's office and any press that is willing to shine a light on the issues this report brings to life. With no work in sight (nightlife's doors are closed for an unknown amount of time), a lack of Government information and aid to help businesses or individuals who work at night, Little Gay Brother is lobbying for a change in Government policy to help those affected.
We're doing this, motivated by the personal accounts of people we love working within this scene, to see if we can affect change and get the needs to the LGBTQ+ nighttime community recognised. We now ask for your help to share this survey with other queer people in nightlife, and fill in honestly.
This questionnaire can be filled in anonymously, but we also ask if anyone is willing to share their story publicly highlighting these issues, to step forward. Your voice and personal experience could make a difference in the wider community. Please share what information you can, but, if you don't want to answer any question, please write "unwilling to share this information".
