Phoebe Track Fall 2022: Practical Discipleship
The Phoebe Track is back in action! This is the 5th of 5 classes that make up the Phoebe Track. We've done Hermeneutics, Theology 1, Theology 2, Imago Dei as Woman, and now Practical Discipleship. The courses will loop back around in the coming year.

Who is the Phoebe Track for? The Phoebe track is the women's equivalent of the Timothy Track and is a discipleship intensive for any woman who would like to grow in her understanding of God, His Word, and His Church, and especially for those who would love to serve in any leadership capacity in the church, or be sent out from Immanuel. In semesters past, we focused in on particular topics, but this semester will be more about how the topics we've discussed before affect the way we live our lives as disciples. Don't worry, the classes are not interdependent, so you can hop in and not miss a beat even if this is your first PT class. The course will include assigned readings and reading-based discussions, some teaching, and lots of open discussion. We will talk about spiritual disciplines like Bible reading, prayer, fasting, evangelism, etc., and how to grow in these areas without making them rules in and of themselves. For those who may be further along in your Christian journey and tempted to think "I don't need a class on spiritual disciplines," we would still love to have your input and fellowship! This semester is going to be heavily discussion-oriented and we would love to hear how the Lord has worked these things out in your life! This is a great time to get to know the women of Immanuel.

When is this thing happening? We will meet every other Sunday night starting August 28-December 4. We will meet at the New Orleans Baptist Association from 7-8:30 pm.

Is this class demanding? The demand of this course will be different for each participant, as the final project is dependent on each woman's choice of topics. For this semester, there is reading to do before the first week of class, so please do not delay getting your books. Be sure and take a minute to look through the syllabus if you have further questions. The links for the book and the syllabus are below, though I will bring physical copies when we meet, and the syllabus will also be available on the church's website. There is no cost for registering, but you are required to purchase your own book(s). There will be a total of 4 books this semester. One to read before our class meets (John Calvin book on the Christian life), two textbooks for use during the class, and one book of your choice from the list provided on the syllabus for your final project.

Link for the Books you will need:

Calvin, John. A Little Book on the Christian Life. (Editor/Authors: Burk Parsons, Aaron Denlinger), 2017.

Ortland, Dane C. Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners. 2021.

Whitney, Donald S. Spiritual Disciplines of the Christian Life, Tyndale Publishers, 2014.

Feel free to buy used copies!

** Note that there is reading due for the first meeting, so the sooner you buy your book, the better. Do not purchase a book for the final project until after our first meeting. You should come to class with 3 books on August 28th, having already read the Calvin one. I hope that makes sense!
