FALL 2021 Extended Summer School (ESS)
Hello La Loma Parents/Guardians,
Your child has been identified as a student who earned an "F" in one or more core classes on their previous semester report card (ex: ELA, history, math and science). As a result, they are currently off-track for participation in our 8th grade end-of-year promotion ceremony
To get back on track, your student needs to earn a passing grade through Extended Summer School (ESS) for each failed core semester class. When students successfully pass an ESS class, the failed semester grade is replaced with the new grade they earned through ESS.
Students are required to attend ESS classes in-person on campus unless absent due to illness or quarantine, in which case students need to contact their ESS teacher to develop an alternate plan for completing and submitting ESS assignments.
Each ESS class will be offered in one of the following formats:
- After school 3 days per week from 3:10 - 4:10 (totaling 20 hours of lab time)
- Before school 5 days per week from 7:55 - 8:55 (totaling 20 hours of lab time)
If a student completes the required ESS coursework before the session ends, they may be eligible to stop attending the lab only after the ESS teacher has confirmed all work has been completed. Students needing additional ESS classes may be enrolled immediately in their next class, pending availability.
The following rules govern the Extended Summer School classes. Students may be dropped from ESS for any of the following reasons:
1. Not completing any assignments within the FIRST 5 HOURS of the ESS class lab time.
2. Any discipline problems.
Once this Google form has been submitted by parent/guardian, Mrs. Marcelino, our School Counselor, will pre-enroll students into the ESS courses needed to get back on track for the 8th grade promotion ceremony.
