FUMC 30-Hour Famine

Youth (Grades 6 – 12) Participants need to:

Welcome to 2024 FUMC 30-Hour Famine!  We are so glad you have decided to participate in this event.  It is such a great cause.  We can use as many volunteers and donations as we can get!  During the 30-Hour Famine, we will play games, worship, participate in a poverty simulation, participate in community service, and serve some time at our collection points.  We have a packed agenda and cannot wait for you to arrive!  Below is some information that will help prepare you (or your youth) for the event and make the event more enjoyable as it tells you what you need to bring. 

Prior to Event:

-   Join our Team through the 30-Hour Famine website:

-   Donations/Fundraising – We suggest you partner up with someone if you are going to fundraise around town/neighborhoods.  There will be some pretty awesome prizes for the most money collected!!!!

-   Start collecting money. Donation checks should be made payable to World Vision or CareNet. Make a goal!  Fundraising works better if there is something to strive for!  When you come to the Famine on Friday, bring the money you’ve collected.  

Day 1 of Event (March 15):

o   Bring $15 cash or check made payable to FUMC for the activity fee (includes t-shirt).

o   Bring 2 bottles of juice or juice boxes or bottles of water (to share with group).

o   Bring sleeping bag/bedroll, pillow and toiletries.

o   Bring a water bottle to refill.

o   Be at FUMC at 5:30 pm on Famine Friday. Upon arrival, you MUST check in at the registration desk. PLEASE NOTE that we will not be set up to register you prior to that time.

Day 2 of Event (March 16):

o   Bring outdoor appropriate clothing for Saturday. We will be out in the cold or even rain (or snow) on Saturday – so bring warm jacket, hat, gloves, scarves, etc. Dress in layers!!!  Make sure you have enough to keep warm! Bring older shoes as they may get dirty…we will be working in the community.

o   Bring a 30-Hour Famine t-shirt to wear on Saturday.  If you do not have one, no worries.  We will get you one!

o   Optional – Bring a “soccer” chair or lawn chair to use on Saturday.

o   Start fasting at noon (or after your lunch at school) on Friday.

o   Cell phones will be limited, If you need to contact your youth, please call Ms. Vicki at 919-210-8072.

Pick Up:

o   Your parents should pick you up on that Saturday between 6-6:30 pm after the evening meal/clean up.             

Sunday, March 17:  

o   All participants are invited to be a part of our youth-led worship service at FUMC on Sunday, March 17. You should wear your famine T-shirt to church. We will meet at 9:30 am Sunday to go over the order of worship for the worship service, which begins at 10 am.
