http://hcs.hickmanschools.org/intro-to-robotics-5-8.htmlIt is important for group and individual success that students are able to attend all class meeting dates.
This course is intended to introduce students in grades 5-8 to the basics of LEGO robotics and the challenges of logical reasoning and problem solving, including LEGO construction, modification, and computer programming. Students will rise to the challenge of building and programming LEGO NXT robots using computer software. Students’ observational, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills will be stretched! As the weeks progress, students will practice with guided builds and programming tasks. The class is capped off with a “Robot Rumble Tournament” and celebration during the last class meeting. (Parents, siblings, and healthy snacks to share are welcomed!)
Who is it for? Students in grades 5-8 with interest in LEGO and robotics. Familiarity with computers is highly recommended. Students should be strong independent readers. Participation in this course is considered a prerequisite for the Advanced Robotics class, available to students in grades 6 and up.
PLEASE NOTE: Class size is limited due to kit availability. Students who were waitlisted in the Fall will receive priority registration for Spring. 8th Grade students will also receive registration priority.
