Holy Family Music Ministry Signup 2023-2024
The music ministry at Holy Family is consists of choirs, performance, collaboration, orchestra, and more.

We have three children's choirs:

Cherubim Children's Choir:

This ensemble meets on Mondays at 3:15pm to 4pm. Typically for kids 4-8 and for kids who have never sung before. We follow a curriculum of Kodaly education and sing for mass once a month. Parents are responsible for purchasing choir vest and tie from Dennis Uniform at 2640 N San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles 90065 by October 1st. Full calendar will be provided once enrolled.

Seraphim Children's Choir:

This ensemble meets on Thursdays at 3:15pm to 4pm. Typically for kids 7-11 and for kids who HAVE sung before in choir. We follow a curriculum of Kodaly education and sing for mass once a month. Parents are responsible for purchasing choir vest and tie from Dennis Uniform at 2640 N San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles 90065 by October 1st. Full calendar will be provided once enrolled.

Archangels Youth Chorus:

This ensemble meets on Saturdays at 4pm-5pm and sings at mass at 5:30pm every week. Typically for kids 10 - 18 and is an auditioned ensemble or by director recommendation. The kids sing medium to advanced level repertoire. Parents are responsible for purchasing choir uniform from Dennis Uniform at 2640 N San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles 90065 by October 1st. Full calendar will be provided once enrolled.

We have three adult choirs:

The St. Cecilia Chorale meets on Thursdays at 7pm and sings for mass at 9am every Sunday. This ensemble sings all the singing parts of the mass as well as special music for offertory or meditation. It is expected that singers also participate for Holy Week and Christmas Midnight Mass celebrations as these are very important for the church. Full calendar and liturgies are provided at first rehearsal.

The Simbayanan' Chorale is led by Mr. Tom Makiling and rehearses Friday evenings from 7pm and for mass at 10:30am every Sunday. This ensemble sings all the singing parts of the mass as well as special music for offertory or meditation. Music in Tagalog and by Filipino composers is also emphasized. It is expected that singers also participate for Holy Week and Christmas Midnight Mass celebrations as these are very important for the church. Full calendar and liturgies are provided at first rehearsal.

Coro Guadalupano es nuestro coro en español que ensaya los jueves por la noche a las 6pm y canta para la misa a las 12 pm todos los domingos. También se enfatiza la música en español y de compositores latinoamericanos. Se espera que los cantantes también participen en las celebraciones de Semana Santa y Misa de Medianoche de Navidad, ya que son muy importantes para la iglesia. El calendario completo y las liturgias se proporcionan en el primer ensayo.

Coro Guadalupano is our Spanish-speaking choir which rehearses on Thursday nights at 6pm and sings for mass at 12pm every Sunday. Music in Spanish and by Latin American composers is also emphasized. It is expected that singers also participate for Holy Week and Christmas Midnight Mass celebrations as these are very important for the church. Full calendar and liturgies are provided at first rehearsal.

Our Cantus Handbell Ensemble meets on Mondays at 5:30pm in the High School building (BVM Center) and is open to anyone who wants to learn to play bells.

We also have a chamber orchestra:

Our chamber orchestra meets for Sunday mass at 9am and performs all of the mass parts and special music for the mass. There is no rehearsal for this ensemble and it is expected that performers are proficient sight-readers. Orchestra members are also sometimes utilized for outside paid opportunities such as weddings and funerals.
