Homewood Science Center High School Internship Fall & Winter 2019
Will you attend high school in 2019-20?  Do you like science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM)? Do you want to get involved in the community? Do you want to gain new skills? Do you want to learn more about how nonprofits work? Do you like working with a team?  Do you like helping people? If you answered yes to all of these, then you should apply to become a high school intern for our fall and winter events at Homewood Science Center!

Job responsibilities:
Assist with all aspects including set-up, execution, and break-down of Homewood Science Center's fall and winter events
Lead interactive STEAM activities for families and children at events
Provide customer service at events, including participant sign-in & shop purchases
Assist with supply management, activity preparation, and decorations
Distribute marketing materials & signs
Act as program staff during Open Hours assisting families in the STEAM Studio, with Imagination Playground, or in the PopUp SCIENCE Shop.

Internship benefits:
This internship will provide participating students with work experience in nonprofit business operations. Interns will have the opportunity to meet new people, including Homewood Science Center corporate & scientific partners. Interns will also be able to satisfy National Honor Society service requirements, and will receive a letter of recommendation after successfully completing the program requirements. Interns can use Homewood Science Center staff as a reference for college, scholarship, and/or job applications.

Eligibility & Requirements:
This internship position is open to any student attending high school in the 2019-2020 school year. Interns must be able to provide their own transportation to and from Homewood Science Center and off-site events. The time commitment for the full internship is approximately 45 hours. Interns must be able to complete at least 35 hours of service in order to successfully complete the program requirements. Applicants must commit to attending at least 6 fall and winter events listed below and at work least 2 shifts of Open Hours. Applicants are more than welcome to work above and beyond the 45 hours outlined in the requirements.

Spooky Science Decorating @ Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 W Ridge Rd.
4 hours 4pm-8pm

Sunday October 20  
Walk Walton Fall Fundraiser @ Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 W Ridge Rd.
6 hours 7am - 1pm -or- 10am - 4 pm

Saturday November 9
Holiday Decorating & Pizza Party
5 hours 12pm-5pm

Friday December 6 Holiday Lights at Homewood Science Center
5.5 hours 4:00pm-9:30pm

Saturday December 14 Santa at the Science Center
5 hours 1:30pm-6:30pm

In addition, interns will be scheduled to work at least one Friday shift and one Saturday shift during  
Open Hours between the following dates:
3.5 hours Fridays Nov 15 - Dec 27  from 4pm-7:30pm
3.5 hours Saturdays Nov 16 - Dec 28 from 10am - 1:30pm or  1:30pm-5pm
