Pingree Pact: Shared Community Expectations
Back to School plans based on the following assumptions:

● “Children learn best when physically present in the classroom” and “returning to school is important for the healthy development and well-being of children” (American Academy of Pediatricians).

● There is inherent risk and potential for harm or injury in all school activities. The steps outlined below are part of a risk reduction strategy related to coronavirus and COVID-19. These steps cannot eliminate risk.

● Pingree is committed to balancing the need for a safe school environment with creating an engaging and durable educational experience.
 
● Pingree is committed to implementing health and safety precautions to mitigate the spread of coronavirus in our school community for the protection of students, faculty, and the larger community.

These in-school measures and at-home expectations may be modified by the school as conditions warrant.

Pingree In-School Safety Measures
Pingree’s efforts are designed to minimize the risks of exposure to coronavirus and to have early detection procedures in place while maintaining the quality of the unique Pingree learning experience. To achieve these goals, the school will implement the following precautionary measures when school begins.

● Close daily monitoring of symptoms and use of screening app (MyMedbot) before entering school and open communication with the school nurse

● Requiring the use of face masks

● Limiting non-essential visitors to campus

● Isolating students and faculty members at home who test positive for coronavirus

● Quarantining students and faculty members at home who are known to have had exposure to coronavirus or are experiencing symptoms consistent with coronavirus

● Maintaining social distancing (6 feet) when feasible

● Teaching and maintaining healthy hygiene techniques and routines, emphasizing frequent hand washing or the use hand sanitizer

● Daily cleaning of classrooms and Wednesday deep cleanings of the entire campus

● Installing MERV 13 and HEPA filters in classrooms and offices

● Changing all restrooms to single occupancy and cleaning regularly

● Amending normal schedules and routines to accommodate safe practices related to minimizing transmission between groups of students

● Increased use of outdoor spaces

● Canceling or modifying traditional school events when the school determines that appropriate distancing cannot be maintained

● The use of video or video conferencing tools for meetings and gatherings whenever possible and when appropriate distancing is not feasible

Family At-Home Safety Measures
Minimizing the risk of infection of coronavirus at Pingree will also require active support and effort on the part of our families outside of the school day and campus. For the protection of the entire community, we expect families who bring students to campus to commit to the following measures, to the best of their ability:

● Supporting and practicing the necessary behavioral expectations at school including frequent hand-washing, maintaining appropriate distancing, and wearing a mask

● Maintaining social distancing outside of the home whenever feasible

● Wearing face masks outside the home when social distancing is not feasible

● Minimizing close, unmasked contact with people outside the household

● Limiting close, masked contact with people outside the household to under 15 minutes

● Monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, runny nose, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, temperature, loss of taste/smell, shortness of breath, etc. and reporting them to the school nurse

● Keeping symptomatic students home for further evaluation and contacting the school nurse

● Reporting to the school nurse when there is a confirmed case in your household

● Supporting the school when making difficult decisions about quarantining students, including adhering to the restrictions proscribed by the school

● Being mindful of CDC guidelines for travel and self-quarantining when recommended
