Macroeconomic volatility, i.e., rapid change between economic boom, overheating and recession is often considered as a defining ‘emerging market’ characteristic. The economic history of regions such as Latin America, South-East Asia, or Eastern Europe may confirm and suggests that macro-stabilization is essential for sustainable economic growth. For the fate between crisis and growth, not the least two factors are decisive: the domestic financial system and sovereign debt & fiscal policy.

Creating stable domestic financial systems represents a persistent challenge for many emerging economies. What are the obstacles and how can they be overcome towards deeper global financial integration system? In which shape are emerging markets’ financial sectors today?

While many emerging economies were already heavily indebted before the Covid-19 pandemic, sovereign debt stocks are reaching new all-time peaks. The status quo raises the question: is a post-Covid-19 sovereign debt crisis imminent or are there potential solutions through effective fiscal policies and debt strategies?

Our second event ‘Emerging Financial Markets’ addresses those imperative emerging market challenges. We are pleased to announce as our speakers:
