Training details: U-visa CLE on U Visas: February 27, 2020, from 1pm to 4pm

This three-hour training will cover what it means to be a “victim,” what type of crimes are qualifying criminal activity, and the other eligibility requirements of a U Visa. It will cover what must be included in the application, common grounds of inadmissibility, the U Visa waiver, and the most common pitfalls.

The Victim Services Division of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will present their procedures for requesting a certification letter.

The training will also cover potential ethical challenges of representing victims of domestic abuse and other crimes, as well as tactics for overcoming those challenges. It will also cover the guidelines for professionally responsible representation, and discuss ethical cross-cultural questioning and communication techniques for clients that have suffered severe trauma.
