Mission Statement
The Turtle Watch Education Program strives to engage the community in the protection of sea turtles and their habitats. The importance of this program to ignite the sense of wonder and amazement in the next generation is critical as sea turtle numbers decline and their challenges continue to grow. The education program seeks to increase public awareness by allowing community members to observe up-close nesting sea turtles and emerging hatchlings in a safe and controlled environment. We hope to foster a conservation ethic in the youth of St. Croix, which may then extend to all aspects of the natural community. An educated and concerned public is our greatest ally when it comes to the preservation of sites such as Sandy Point.

Community Group Requirements
Nesting Watch will be available to both youth, adult and community groups (with priority given to children and youth groups). Group size has been designated as 12-15 (with youth groups requiring 3 of the 15 participants to be adult chaperones). We accept applications from the following group types:

- Virgin Islands public or private school (or after school extracurricular program i.e., band, sport, etc.)
- St. Croix hosted summer camp or day program
- Boy and Girl Scouts of the Virgin Islands
- VI families groups
- VI Homeschool groups
- Virgin Islands groups with large community membership (e.g., church)
- Groups with an environmental charter in the VI
- Non-profit organization acting on St. Croix

Unfortunately, individual applications cannot be accepted. This list represents some common examples of groups that are invited to apply for the Turtle Watch Program.  If you believe that your group should be included on this list, please contact us at sandypoint.turtlewatch@gmail.com.
