The Education Bureau (EDB) has stepped up the promotion of STEAM education in primary schools for all students by launching the “Enriched Module on Coding Education for Upper Primary Level”, adapted from CoolThink@JC.
Starting October 2023, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is partnering with MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node to further develop computational thinking education by bringing CoolThink App Inventor courses to schools and students who have not previously participated in CoolThink programme. This provides equal opportunities for every student to learn this essential 21st century skill and prepares them for a rapidly digitizing future.
Eligibility for Participating Schools: Priority will be given to government schools, aided schools and direct subsidy schools that have not participated in CoolThink in the past
Eligibility for Participating Students: Primary 5 and Primary 6 students
Support Methods:
- In-school ECA support (MIT Node offers 2-4 sessions (90 mins each) of in-school weekday ECA to each participating school)
- Bootcamps@MIT Node (MIT Node offers one-day bootcamps to schools (intensive 6 hours))
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand core computational thinking concepts by coding mobile apps
- Learn problem-solving techniques applicable across disciplines and in daily life, including algorithmic thinking, abstraction, being incremental and iterative etc.
- Expand technological perspectives and become creators of technology
Students who attend all classes will receive a course completion certificate issued by MIT Node
*Participants need to bring their own tablet or laptop
