ウェルビーイングは、日英両国において近年急速に注目を集めている重要な社会問題です。就職活動を行う若者の間で「ワークライフバランス」を重視する動きが増えています。求められた最低限の業務だけを行う『静かな退職(Quiet Quitting)』現象は、社会が福祉に関する新たな懸念を解決できていないことの一例です。また、学生のメンタルヘルスに関する問題は両国においてより深刻になっています。最近の研究により、国が成長し発展するにつれて、「絶望の死」が増える傾向がようやく明らかになってきました。若者の孤独感が増加しているという研究結果も多く、ウェルビーイングは議論の中心になるべき話題でありながら、日英含む世界中において、これまで軽視されてきました。ウェルビーイングに関する理解はまだ十分に進んでいません。ウェルビーイングに関するメンタルヘルスの研究はまだ発展途上であり、社会はメンタルヘルスへの懸念を各人の意志薄弱であるとすぐに否定することは多々あります。 本会議ではさまざまな分野の研究者の方々をお招きして、多様な角度から「ウェルビーイング」を理解することを参加者に促していきます。

Thank you for your interest in the UK-Japan Student Conference 2024, "Well-being"! UK-JP is a student organisation that was founded in 2016 to foster intercultural dialogue between Japan and the UK. https://www.uk-jpstudentconference.comWell-being has become an increasingly alarming issue in both countries. From seeking “work-life balance” or “quiet quitting” in workplaces, student mental health issues to insufficient mental health support in public healthcare, these phenomena highlight society's continuous failure of addressing emerging concerns on well-being. Studies have also revealed an increase in loneliness amongst youths, and a rising number of “Deaths of Despair” as countries grow and develop. Emerging yet neglected in the UK and Japan, well-being is still poorly understood as research remains limited under the societal stigmatisation of mental health.
Thus, 2024's Conference, “Well-being,” aims to gather professionals from various fields to thoroughly understand well-being from multiple perspectives.
You will be asked to participate in 2 online preliminary study sessions in July and August, dates to be confirmed. The 2024 Conference will be held from August 19th–27th, 2024, in-person in London.
Participation fee is tentatively £350 / ¥65,000 -- please note that final fee is subject to change. Participation fee covers food, accommodation and transportation during the Conference period. The fee does NOT include travel to London for the Conference, e.g. flights or trains. You must make your own arrangements to arrive in London, using your own financial resources.
Eligibility: Any undergraduate or postgraduate students currently studying at a UK or Japanese university. Available to attend the conference for the whole conference period in-person in London, UK.
