Young Folk at the Hall (Stephenville 2024)
We are pleased to resume our usual Young Folk at the Hall program for 2024! This program was started by Fergus O' Byrne to provide an opportunity for young musicians to meet and share in the fun of playing music together and it has been an invaluable part of the cultural development of young artists over the last 20 plus years.

At the initial workshop/meeting musicians will be divided into groups of five or six musicians with a broad range of ages and musical ability within their group.  Each group will then work for the afternoon with a facilitator who will help guide the group through the selection of common repertoire (4 pieces maximum - songs and/or instrumentals), and the arrangement of those pieces. Plus, a band name will be decided on and band photos taken!

The second session is quite similar to the first only more focused on rehearsing and arranging the final repertoire in advance of the finale concert the following day.

Here are a few "need to knows"...

- We can only accept 35 registrants for this year.

- Sessions will be from 7-9:30pm on Friday, April 26, and 2:00-3:30pm on Saturday, April 27, with the finale concert on Sunday, 28 at 2:00 pm.

- We ask that you are able to commit to both sessions and the concert. It is important that the groups stay together through the whole program.

- Group mentors are often alumni of the program and often professional artists or music teachers chosen for their passion for music and ability to support and guide the group. Many of the young artists in the groups will be regulars and able to assist the younger or newer participants as well.

- At the first session, we will take photos of each group to be published in the printed program, social media and on our website.

- We won’t have access to a photocopier during the workshops, and ask that participants bring 4 or 5 copies of any material (lyrics/chords/charts/sheet music etc.) they wish to bring to the group.

- Registration for each child is a non - refundable $30 plus tax. Tickets to the final concert will be $10 each.

These contributions support the program but if for some reason these fees are a barrier to your young folks participation, simply get in touch. We'll work it out.

We look forward to working with your young folk this year! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
