SH30 Safer Speed Survey
Waka Kotahi has proposed that the Speed Limits between Curtis Rd and Hongis Track be reduced to 60kph except for a 1km section between Ruato Bay and Gisborne Point.

LRCA intends to support the speed reductions proposed and request that the speed limit between Ruato Bay and Gisborne Point be reduced to 60kph.

Because:

* many drivers who increase their speed for this short distance will not reduce their speed to the new 60kph limit when they enter Ruato Bay and Gisborne Point

* the increase from 60 to 80kph will encourage drivers to attempt to pass dangerously where vision is severely restricted and

* Waka Kotahi's finding that: “People asked for more consistent and safer speeds to slow down traffic, to discourage drivers from accelerating and decelerating at tight corners and along the straights”.

Accident statistics for SH30 show an alarming increase in serious accidents as traffic increases.

It is important that we take this opportunity to make our roads safer.

The speed limit for Ruato Bay and Gisborne Point and the road between these communities should be 60kph not 80kph.
