Children's Liturgy of the Word (during Sunday 11am Mass at St Joseph's Redhill, PNL) is the process of children leaving Mass to celebrate their own liturgy of the word at their level of understanding.

It involves telling the gospel in simplified form with opportunity for the children to ask questions, singing and a craft activity to do at the time or take away depending on the time available. Children will leave Mass after the opening prayer and before the first reading and will then return to Mass during the offetory where it is the parent or guardian's responsibility to collect them at the altar if they have not already returned to their seat.

We welcome any pre school or primary school aged child (2-8y) up to First Holy Communion but can involve older children 8-11y on a discretionary basis particularly if they want to accompany younger children. It is not suitable for secondary school age children.

Due to safeguarding rules from the diocese we must adhere to the appropriate adult:child ratios, each child must have a consent form filled out for EACH child (as below but only needs to be completed once) by their parent or guardian and we must keep a register of attendance for every session. Children will be pre-registered on entrance to Mass on the day.

You are welcome to join your child and come to the chuch hall during Children's Liturgy but please stand at the side and let the child participate. Ideally, children attend whilst their parents/guardians stay in Mass if safeguarding adult:child ratios allow.

Please don't let your child bring any food or drink to Children's Liturgy.

We are starting the sessions on an ad hoc basis allowing for availability of volunteers who are all DBS checked. However, from September 2024, we hope to make this a regular monthly or twice monthly occurrence depending on the number of volunteers. The data from the consent form will be stored on a secure google drive only used for the purposes of the Children's Liturgy of the Word and participants details deleted when they reach aged 12y.
