Freddy Art Hunt: Artist Registration
Please read ALL of the information (including the Rules and Tips sections) below before submitting your registration!

When? July 8, 2023

What is it? A city-wide art scavenger hunt! Local artists hide art in Fredericton NB on July 8th and post clues on Instagram using the event hashtag, #freddyarthunt. Their followers can find their art and keep it for FREE. This is basically a small-scale clone of Game of Shrooms (minus the mushroom theme).

Theme? Completely open! Make whatever you want.

Who can participate? ANY ARTIST located in Fredericton NB! Your age, skill level, or medium does not matter. All are welcome! You do not need to pay or apply to participate.

How to join? Simply hide your art somewhere in Fredericton on July 8th. The time of day you hide your art is up to you. Once your art is hidden, take some photos and post clues on Instagram using the hashtag #freddyarthunt. Please promote the event in advance as well using the same hashtag. Share sneak peeks, progress shots, and pictures of your finished art to generate hype around the event.

Where can I hide my art? In any outdoor or indoor public space (within reason). For example, you could hide your art under a bench, in a bush, or in a store (with the staff’s permission). Get creative! But please do not trespass, hide art in protected areas, or cause damage to nature or property.

What if no one finds my art? Someone will probably find it! Especially if you post clues and promote it well. However, it is your responsibility to retrieve any unclaimed art. This is a leave no trace event.

TIPS
  1. Put your Instagram handle and #freddyarthunt on the back of your art.

  2. Finding an original piece of art is the most exciting (such as a painting, knitted toy, etc). However, you may hide printed reproductions if you prefer. Consider framing your prints to make them extra special!

  3. In case of rain, consider wrapping your art in plastic or make a back-up plan to hide it indoors.

  4. Don't hide anything too big. Your art should be easy to hide (and walk away with).

  5. Art can be found pretty fast! Consider hiding 2-3 pieces if you are cool with that.

  6. It is possible that someone will stumble upon your art without knowing about the event. This can be disappointing to people who are actively looking for it. Consider leaving a note on your art saying something along the lines of “This is part of the Freddy Art Hunt! If you are not actively looking for this art, please consider putting it back where you found it.” Obviously this doesn’t guarantee anything, but it might help.

  7. Start promoting the Freddy Art Hunt at least a week before it takes place. Promotional materials will not be provided; it is up to you to inform your audience about the hunt.

  8. Ask your followers to contact you when they find your art.

  9. Once you hide your art, go out and find some art for yourself!!

A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
