In this introductory workshop participants will learn how off grid solar works, how to plan their off grid system, and what materials and tools they'll need to build it. They will also learn about the different components of an off grid solar system and where to source them from.
This workshop is aimed at all levels and you don't need a technical background to understand it.
Note: this is an information and discussion workshop with a practical demonstration.
This workshop will be facilitated by Arran Allison, the Green Handyman for Energise Sussex Coast. Arran lives off-grid himself and has been building off grid workshops for over 20 years - building solar systems to power stages at festivals as well as small solar projects. Arran is self taught and wants to share the knowledge and skills he's learnt along the way.
This will focus on how to size an off grid system, and is for people who have made the decision to build a system and need to go through the process of sizing it or just want to know how solar works.
So what is it? Retrofit is the process of improving the energy efficiency of a building - this could be through insulation, equipment such as boilers and heat pumps, double and triple glazing of windows, and lighting and heating systems.
In this free workshop we will bring together professionals from the retrofit industry to share their knowledge of how to go about retrofitting your home and to share their experience of their own retrofit projects. This includes how to get started, looking at the different approaches to retrofitting, coming up with a retrofit plan, how to retrofit in a cost effective way and tips on avoiding issues such as damp. The session will be followed by a Q&A.
Note: this is an information and discussion workshop, not a practical demonstration.
Victorian and older homes are notoriously hard to make energy efficient. The concept of this event is to bring together 4 residents who have significantly improved the energy efficiency of their older homes. The panel will talk about what they did and how they achieved it. The measures range from the easily accessible low cost measures right through to large scale retrofit. There will then be a Q&A where you will have the opportunity to ask your questions to the panel.
In this workshop an Energy Advisor will take you through the easiest, quickest and most effective ways to reduce your energy costs and save energy. The workshop will take participants through a 4 step plan which will result in hundreds of pounds of energy bill savings:
1 – Making sure the price is right
2 – Using your energy system controls to save hundreds
3 – Energy switches – How to combat the big energy guzzlers.
4 – DIY energy saving
