What was the best part of the Monster Novel Structure Workbook, that you would like to see repeated in follow-up books?
Do you have any follow-up questions from the Monster Novel Structure Workbook that the book didn't answer?
Option 1: Pacing, from Sentence to Series
This book would explore and illuminate pacing in novels, from the micro (sentence-level) to macro (series arcs). Pacing can be musical, and you can make deliberate choices that impact how the reader 'hears' that music. By examining what techniques you've used you can minimize things like 'it dragged in the middle' or 'it moved so fast I got whiplash.' This book would have an emphasis on theory, strategies, and tools, and include worksheets and downloads to help you evaluate pacing in your work.
Option 2: Finding Writing Community
Writing may be a solitary act, but we thrive in community with likeminded people. How do you find other writers? How do you know they're the right people for you? Where DO you find a critique partner, and are a couple of CPs better than a critique group that meets once a month? This book would define the kinds of writing community you can find, where to look, how to know if you've got the right fit--and how to walk away if it's not. Would include tons of links, tools for evaluating what you need, and templates for both reaching out and saying goodbye.
Option 3: Brainstorming (with Structure)
So, you understand story structure but what do you do about it when dreaming up a new novel? What if you're having trouble figuring out which beat is which? How do you keep yourself on task, hit all the beats, AND not waste time outlining to infinity? This book would be ideal for plantsers, who want to do some outlining/prep but also want to leave gaps for organic creativity. It would include worksheets and downloads to help you brainstorm and begin structuring your ideas.
