An 11 year old girl, previously well, presented with patchy hair loss over the parietal area of the scalp for 3 months. Eyelashes, eyebrows were not affected and nails were normal. There was no history of similar illness in the family and also no trauma or drug history or recent systemic illness. On examination there were 2 patches of non-scarring alopecia of size ranging from 2cm by 3cm and  1cm by 2cm noted . The area over the patches was smooth with no skin changes.
