Greetings!
This form is to sign-up to participate in the "open-mic" format Spoken Word & Writings event (5:30 - 8:30 p.m.) during the Akron ArtWalk at Summit Artspace on Friday, June 14 (5 -9 p.m.).
Summit Artspace's theme for this quarter's ArtWalk is "Literary Echos" in celebration of the local literary arts and Akron Public Library's 150th year celebration, while also remembering that the Summit Artspace building was home to the Main Library 1940-1969.
In addition to several other literary-themed activities we have planned for the public, we're encouraging local writers to verbally share their own writing, poems, excerpts, and the like, while continuing the tradition of spoken word.
A modest platform, microphone and speaker will be set-up outdoors in the parking lot between the Akron Art Museum and Summit Artspace (Broadway and Summit Streets), where other ArtWalk events will be taking place.
The other outdoor events include Akron Public Library's Bookmobile, an art book sale, poem-writing activities, and food vendors. ArtWalk events continue inside Summit Artspace with pop-up literary and visual artists, a free hand-stitched book-binding activity, a free zine-making activity with Zine Zone, and MUCH MORE!
Even more ArtWalk events continue at other participating locations throughout the Historic Arts District in Downtown Akron.
The Akron ArtWalk is a free community event and is open to the public.
