Interest for Deepening Capacity as White Change Agents (November 10 & Jan 13/14)
Dear colleagues,

We're excited to share that this January, Whitman will host Dr. Kathy Obear, founder of the Center for Transformation and Change, for a special 2-day, in-person event for faculty and staff on Deepening Capacity as White Change Agents. Inspired by our experiences at the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Ed (NCORE), this event will bring together people who share a commitment to racial justice and anti-racism and who will show up in authentic and vulnerable dialogue to do the critical self-work and skill development necessary to shift racist dynamics and create racial equity and inclusion on campus. (A fuller workshop description is attached.)

On Thursday, November 10 from 3:30-5pm, Dr. Obear will host an online event for Whitman employees interested in learning more about the workshop and beginning to engage in collective work.

The 2-day workshop will take place Friday, January 13 - Saturday, January 14 (precise times tba). We are conscious that this Friday-Saturday schedule is unconventional (it corresponds to Dr. Obear's availability). While we hope many will be able to commit to the full two-day event, participants are also welcome to engage for a single day if only Friday is possible. Likewise, people who cannot join us on November 10 are certainly still welcome in January.

We will share more information about the event as it gets closer and are happy to answer your questions in the meantime. We hope to see you at the online event on November 10 and look forward to doing this important work together.
