The STFC Food Network+ (SFN) is running a hackathon in support of COP26 entitled 'Designing an analytics platform for supporting sustainable livelihoods and climate resilient small scale farming'
The event will be 100% online and run from Tuesday 2nd to Friday 5th of November 2021 on Google Colab.
Through our partnerships with UKRI STFC, STFC Hartree Centre, IBM Research, and the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (
https://csa-india.org/) we have identified a need to provide smallholder farmers with timely and location-specific advice about the crop types and varieties they should grow. Our challenge for the hackathon is to bring together hugely varied datasets - from market price data to soil maps - to design an integrated OPEN ACCESS platform for recommending crop type, planting date and management advice for smallholder farmers in India.
We would like entries from cross-disciplinary teams of designers, coders, scientists, stakeholders and anyone who has the skills or ideas to integrate data analytics with stakeholders needs. We do not have limitations on the size of the team, but for practical reasons, recommend you limit this to 6 people. We encourage you to use this event as an opportunity to form new relationships and work with people from different disciplines and backgrounds.
You can find out more about the logistics of the event on our Website:
