Thank you for your interest in signing up to volunteer with the APA City Planning & Management Division! With every member in mind, the Division’s purpose is to:

advance the practice of urban planning and coordinated city management in cities;
facilitate learning and mentorship opportunities for its members;
be a resource for best practices and innovations that strengthen our profession;
provide a platform for the exchange of ideas; and
provide scholarships, grants, and other financial support opportunities to members wishing to advance their careers.

CORE COMMITTEES

Pursuant to the Division Bylaws:

4.2 Other Committees
The Chairperson of the Executive Committee shall appoint other committees and committee chairpersons as deemed necessary to carry out the mission of the Division. The committees or committee chairpersons may include these five core committees: Communications, Programs, Membership, Chapter Engagement, and Student Ambassadors.

Please select the core committee(s) you are interested in:

Communications Committee – manages all the Division's external communications, including the Division’s website, membership communications, social media, newsletter, and branding management.

Programs Committee – proposes, manages, and facilitates Division programs, such as mentorship, webinars, networking, and conference sessions.

Membership Committee – manages all membership relations and advise the Executive Committee on membership demographics and trends. It will also manage the Division’s annual nominations to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners. It will develop and execute a survey of membership at a minimum of every two years and coordinate closely with the Communications Director to develop and manage efforts to increase membership and ensure contact details are up-to-date and accurate.

Chapter Engagement Committee – builds relationships between our Division by routinely meeting with the Division liaisons and/or programs coordinators of APA Chapters to determine areas of common interest and how we can support each other.

Committee of Student Ambassadors – student members of the Division serving as liaison between Division leadership and student members.

OTHER COMMITTEES

The Chairperson of the Executive Committee may also establish and appoint other committees, from time to time, to carryout the business and programs of the Division based on the adopted annual work plan. These committees do not meet as frequently as the core committees and offer an opportunity for limited/short-term commitments.

Nominating Committee (reports to Executive Committee) - a Nominating Committee consisting of three or more Division members shall be appointed bi-annually by the Chairperson of the Executive Committee during even numbered years.

Mentoring (reports to Programs) - tasked with developing, implementing, and monitoring the program and identifying mentor and mentee participants.

Review Committee (reports to Communications) - tasked with reviewing articles submitted for the Division newsletter.

AICP Grant Review Subcommittee (reports to Programs) - tasked with reviewing applications submitted as part of the program twice a year during each AICP exam cycle.

NPC Travel Grant Subcommittee (reports to Programs) - tasked with reviewing applications submitted as part of the program once a year ahead of the NPC.

National Planning Conference Directors Breakfast (reports to Programs) - tasked with identifying a location and developing a program each year for the NPC breakfast.
