Changeist: Changemaker Scholar Application (2023 - 2024)
Thank you for your interest in being a Changemaker Scholar and serving as a Team Leader with Changeist! 

Changemaker Scholars work with Changeist to mentor civically-engaged youth in their pursuit of social change. All students selected to be Changemaker Scholars will receive a $2,000 scholarship ($1,000 per quarter) and will enroll in a 4-unit upper-division independent study course in both winter and spring quarters, 2024.

Changeist is a youth empowerment program that aims to build a critical mass of young people collectively working toward creating a more just world. We are currently seeking volunteers to lead diverse teams of middle and high school youth in a high impact year of activism and community change.

As a Changemaker Scholar, you will be trained in the latest youth development frameworks and skill sets to enhance the learning of young people. Training will be facilitated by Changeist Staff as well as staff with the UCLA Center for Community Engagement (CCE). In addition to mentoring a team of youth aka Changeists, you will be expected to facilitate one community conversation with your fellow Team Leaders. CCE staff will work with you to develop the curriculum for your community conversation.

Eligibility
  • Have sophomore, junior, or senior standing
  • Open to all majors
  • Minimum 2.8 GPA in your major
Time commitment: In order to receive the $2,000 scholarship and pass the independent study course - Changemaker Scholars are expected to - 
  • Attend three 8-hour pre-program training sessions (11/4/2023, 11/18/2023, 12/2/2023)
  • Lead teams for 8 hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) for our 22-week program on Saturdays beginning January 6th, 2024, and ending on July 6th, 2024
  • Meet once a week with Changeist Fellows to review the curriculum and activities designed for program days
  • Attend and participate in all virtual monthly trainings facilitated by UCLA and Changeist Staff (1 training a month) 
  • Complete all requirements of the CESC 195CE course that you will enroll in for both winter and spring quarters
